  • Proficient with full-stack software engineering skills with multiple years of hands-on experience delivering complex, maintainable, high-quality software.
  • Strong knowledge of industry leading technology trends, best practices, design principles and patterns, and methods including Agile software development, iterative delivery, and cloud computing.
  • Experience and proficiency with SQL, no-SQL, and in-memory databases. Postgres experience preferred.
  • Ability and desire to lead technical discussions and evangelize technical concepts.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Build core decisioning components for rule authoring, versioning, simulation, testing, and observability, delivered through intuitive UIs, APIs, and automation pipelines.   
  • Lead efforts to harvest decision logic from COBOL and mainframe systems, refactoring them into modern rule representations using Drools (or similar rule engines). 
  • Design and implement modern decision services with Java, J2EE, and Spring Boot, replacing legacy mainframe-based processes with a cloud-native, modular platform.
  • Collaborate with Product, Credit, Pricing, and Risk teams to translate legacy strategies into traceable, standardized Drools rules and workflows.
  • Build frameworks for automated testing, simulation, and regression validation of rules and decision flows.
  • Integrate decision services with telemetry, observability, and feedback loops (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) to monitor performance and continuously improve strategy effectiveness.
  • Contribute hands-on to the full lifecycle of development: design, coding, testing, deployment, and support in an Agile, DevOps-enabled environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical delivery, ensuring code quality, reusability, and maintainability.
  • Explore the use of GenAI-powered tools to accelerate rule harvesting, automate documentation, and support natural language-based rule authoring.

Preferred Experience

  • Strong background in legacy system modernization, specifically harvesting business rules from COBOL/mainframe systems and translating them into modern platforms.
  • Proven experience building enterprise decisioning solutions using Drools, IBM ODM, or FICO Blaze.
  • Deep knowledge of Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, RESTful API design, and microservices-based systems.
  • Familiarity with rule governance, testing frameworks, and observability practices.
  • Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment.
  • Exposure to cloud-native development (AWS required; Azure preferred).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to work effectively with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with GenAI-assisted tools for documentation, rule transformation, or automation is a plus.

Target base salary range is xx-xx, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
